Usher will be the mentor on "American Idol" next week for R&B and soul. Miley Cyrus, this week's mentor, comes out and performs.

I thought she was a great mentor, spot-on with her comments and supportive but truthful with the contestants. And she was amazingly poised, especially when you remember she's just 17.

She's singing "When I Look At You," and it's not bad. The thing about her is she's always working hard. but it's not effortless, which sometimes detracts from the song. A bit painful to watch at times, with all the sudden jerks -- she never gets lost in the moment, always cognizant that she's on stage.

Having said all that, it's a good performance. She's really very likeable. Miley, just don't become like Lindsay Lohan!
