Meet American Girl’s 2016 Girl of the Year doll: Lea Clark, a 10-year-old who is a photographer with a love for animals. Her adventurous spirit takes her on a family trip to Brazil. While visiting the Amazon rainforest, she is forced to face challenges, including a fear of the ocean and helping a baby sloth who is injured.
Available for only one year, the 18-inch Lea doll -- with long, wavy hair and hazel eyes -- will launch with three books written by Lisa Yee. Lea’s collection also included topical-inspired outfits, accessories and toys, including Lea’s Rainforest House with more than 30 pieces. A full-length movie will debut on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment in summer 2016.
Additionally, American Girl created Wild at Art, a year-long campaign encouraging girls to host an art sale and donate the proceeds to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The initiative launced this month and American Girl has mad ea $50,000 donation to WWF. Also, through December 31, 2016, for every purchase of one of the three plush animals in Lea’s collection, (the margay, sea turtle or sloth) American Girl will donate $1 (up to a maximum of $100,000) to WWF.
