Best Buddies clubs help build friendships, change lives
Best Buddies. What words come to mind when you hear this? Friendship? Best Buddies is a not-for-profit organization that sets up clubs at different schools around the country to help people with disabilities. I'm sure that at your school, you have seen kids with mental or physical disabilities. Well, they are no different from you and me.
Best Buddies clubs try to develop a friendship between students with and without disabilities in the same school. I was able to be part of this club. Not only did I get to meet so many new kids, but I became friends with students with disabilities in my own school that I might not have known, and do projects with them.
After weeks of spending time with the kids, you do get very close with your new friends.
Every week, we would meet after school and go outside to hang out. At the end of last year, I started to cry when I knew I wouldn't see one of the girls again because she was going to high school. It makes you feel like you are doing something really good when you see that you're putting a smile on someone else's face. See if this club is available to you. It is fun, and you are helping others. Who wouldn't want to make someone else's day a little brighter?
