The Butterfly Effect Project is for young girls ages 5 to 18. The program focuses on making young girls feel needed, independent and confident. The program, which was at my old school, Phillips Avenue in Riverhead, shows girls how important they are and encourages them to make sure they feel special.

Tia Fulford is the founder/executive director and Troy Fulford is the president. The married couple started this program together to inspire young people to never give up and always help others in need. Later they expanded the program to include boys; they're called the Mosquitoes.

We met every other Wednesday after school for about an hour. We do fun crafts, challenges and activities, and go on field trips. Sometimes the Butterfly Effect Project gets enough money to go to sleep-away camps for a week. The Butterfly Effect Project’s oath is, “I am strong, I am beautiful, I am thankful, I am the future. And we are the Butterfly Effect Project!”
