Camp TAG (The Allergy Gang) in New Jersey
For the past two summers, I've gone to Camp TAG (The Allergy Gang). This is a one-week day camp in Williamstown, New Jersey, for kids ages 4 to 12 with food allergies. Campers can bring their siblings.
My twin sister, Valerie, has a severe peanut allergy and Camp TAG is a nut-free camp. A nurse is always on site, and hand wipes are constantly handed out. Counselors carry around EpiPens and other medication in coolers. EpiPens have medication that you inject in the leg if someone has a severe allergic reaction.
At Camp TAG we learn about allergies through stories, role playing and discussions. We also have fun. Activities include rope courses, arts and crafts, music, swimming, pedal carts, miniature golf, soccer, basketball, kickball, archery, lacrosse, tennis and baseball. Our counselors teach us about food allergies and how to stay safe. Water and snacks are provided each day.
I like Camp TAG because I have fun while learning how to keep my sister safe. It is a great experience, and I have made friends I get to see every summer. I am glad there is a camp dedicated to people like my sister with food allergies.
