A late-autumn cornucopia of shows for kids hits Long Island over the coming week -- from a recounting of the West African legend of the baobab tree to an Austrian puppet performance of "The Sound of Music" to a poetry slam geared to teenagers.

Puppets, live actors and musicians drumming and singing depict the legend of a baobab tree in West Africa. The tree gives forth an egg that turns into a boy who ends a drought. Performed by Le Théâtre Motus of Quebec; for ages 6 to 11
 

Shout, Twist, Marina and Kiki from the Nick Jr. TV show "The Fresh Beat Band" perform their pop hits.
 

The wise groundhog Pardon-Me-Pete narrates the tale of Jack Frost and Elisa, a resident of January Junction so beautiful she melts Jack's heart. Performed by Plaza Theatrical Productions, Inc.
 

Austria's Salzburg Marionette Theatre performs the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical using hand-carved puppets. With voices of Broadway's Christian Noll, Martin Vidnovic and Jonathan Groff. For ages 8 and older
 

A musical retelling of classic fairy tales with rewritten endings -- for instance, the Princess from the Princess and the Pea gives her mattresses to the homeless. The play follows a girl named Tina and fairy godmother Moey on Tina's quest to save Storyland from doom; with songs by Melissa Levis of Manhattan, leader of the children's band "Moey's Music Party." Based on the CD-DVD called "Happily Ever Moey! A Fairy Tale Lark in Central Park." Performed by Five Towns College theater students; Moey doesn't appear in the show.
 

Winnie and friends ensure Eeyore's merry Christmas by helping him find his tail. Based on A.A. Milne's stories. Performed by St. Joseph's College theater students
