"Pay attention!" "Stop talking!" "Leave me alone!" "Sit still!"

My name is Chris. I am 10, and I'm in fifth grade. People say things like this to me every day. It makes me feel bad because most of the time I can't control what I say and do. I have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). I have known that I have ADHD since I was young. When people have ADHD, they have a hard time focusing, organizing, listening, concentrating and sitting still. They might talk a lot, fidget and have a hard time waiting their turn.

I can relate to other kids who have ADHD. I would like to share some helpful ideas. Using a fidget toy helps me focus, taking breaks when I need to, standing as I work, working in groups, sitting away from a group when I am not allowed to talk, highlighting work and having a lot of space.

If you think you might have ADHD, talk to your mom and dad about what you are going through. If you don't have ADHD, please be understanding of people who have it.
