Kidsday attends Nickelodeon’s Halo Awards taping

We went to the taping of the 2016 Nickelodeon HALO Awards in Manhattan last week. The HALO Awards is a cool way to give awards to teens that help communities. Each of the four winners received a HALO baton, as well as money that went to the charity they created. The winners also got to introduce some of the singers that performed at the awards show.
Before going into the awards, we went on Nickeolodeon’s Orange Carpet to meet and interview many of the celebrities who attended, like some of the cast from “The Thundermans” and “School of Rock.” We also met JoJo Siwa and Chloe from “Dance Moms,” and singers Alessia Cara and Daya, just to name a few. Nick Cannon was the host of the HALO Awards. We interviewed him on the Orange Carpet and asked him if he was excited to host the event. He said, “I created the HALO Awards and I’m very excited to be the host!” He was very noticeable because he had a big, purple Mohawk and was wearing an orange HALO Awards jacket and brown boots with HALO Awards stickers on them. He was one of our favorite people to interview. It may have been a lot of work preparing for the orange carpet, but once we were actually there, we saw why we needed a lot of questions.
During the HALO Awards, you do not sit down and watch a show. We could walk around to get food and drinks, and there were a lot of activities, like pinball, Pac-Man, and even a basketball shootout game. We also got to go to stations where we were able to choose many different glow things, such as bracelets, rings and hair clips. The workers at the show were even giving out glow sticks that we used during two songs at the taping. We even got to color our very own bag that we used to carry things around. Yes, we got to keep everything! This happened all while watching a bunch of performers sing. JoJo Siwa sang “Boomerang” and Hailee Steinfeld sang “Starving.” In the grand finale, Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, and Daya sang together, while Grey, Zedd, and other musicians played, with lights flashing all over. We got to stand right in front of the stage for this. This was amazing!
This experience was almost like being behind the scenes of a television show. There were cameras all over the place, so there were a lot of ways to get on television. Once a cameraman asked us to say, “This is how we Halo!” into the camera. We hope that gets on TV. Some of the time they had to redo certain parts of the taping, so we got to see things twice because some things may not have worked properly.
As you can see, we had a great time. The 2016 Nickelodeon HALO Awards will air as an hourlong concert special premiering this Sunday at 7 p.m. on Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons.
