Learning about science, space at SEMAA
By ALLISON RAMZ. Kidsday Reporter. The Science, Engineering Mathematics and Aerospace Academy, also known as (SEMAA) is a student program at York College sponsored by NASA.. Teaching all grades, the teachers have a lot of experience, and they give really educational and fun projects. This program has been going on for 15 years, and more than 1,500 kids have graduated each year.. In the summer semester, there are a lot of outdoor activities, and kids can even make their own rocket ships.. I just finished the winter-spring semester. The teachers had us working on things that happen in the world. For example, the fifth-grade was learning about solar space and what they do in space and how they live, since there is no gravity.. My experience with SEMAA was amazing because I made a lot of friends, and I have learned a lot about things in space that I didn't know -- like that you have to exercise upside-down to get the most strength in exercise.. The teachers here make everything fun. I also enjoyed the Star Lab, where we learned about the constellations and the signs of all the animals for each time period.. I think kids should go to the program because they can learn more about science and math. This program is really great, and I think a lot of kids will like it. I know I did. Classes are offered for grades 1-8.. Call 718-262-2580 or visit bit.ly/1j7QbXi
