Michael Cascio, an accountant from New Hyde Park, has turned a story he used to tell his three children into a hard-cover picture book, and he’ll be reading from “When I Was a Child I Was Always Afraid: A Story About Conquering Fear” (Mascot Books, $14.95) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at The Dophin Bookshop, 299 Main St., Port Washington.

The event is free and will include a craft.

Cascio, 53, says the book, which is written in verse, is geared to helping kids get over their fears.

“The story developed, as many do, over countless hours while spending time on long drives and at my children’s bedsides,” Cascio says. “The story line is a little boy is afraid of the noises under his bed, afraid of the sounds in the attic and basement, the thunder and lightning.” The boy’s dad helps him get over his worries.
