Prolific kids’ author Jeff Kinney is out with his 10th book in the blockbuster “Wimpy Kid” series, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School” (Amulet Books, $13.95). This one is about what happens when protagonist Greg Heffley’s entire town voluntarily unplugs and goes electronics-free, and when Greg goes on a weeklong school trip to Hardscrabble Farms. For fans following the different colors of each Wimpy Kid volume, this latest one is black.
Superstar singer Mariah Carey debuts her first children’s book — “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (Doubleday, $17.99). Carey, a Long Island native, interprets the classic hit through a story about a little girl’s wish for a puppy for Christmas. The girl draws pictures of puppies, bakes puppy cookies, makes a puppy snowman and hopes Santa will bring the one thing she wants for the holiday. For ages 3 to 7; illustrated by Colleen Madden.
Disney/Pixar’s new animated kids’ movie “The Good Dinosaur” opens Thanksgiving Eve — Nov. 25. It’s the story of a friendship between an adorable dinosaur and a human cave boy. Rated PG.
And for the older kids, the conclusion to the Hunger Games series — “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” — opens this week. It’s the final faceoff between good (that would be girl hero Katniss Everdeen) and evil (that would be dastardly President Snow) in the dystopian land of Panem.
