Football season is over, and now it's fashion's turn to headline as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week blitzes New York City with hundreds of shows from Feb. 9-16.

The playing field is vast, with more than 200 designers showing their fall 2012 collections at the tents at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park and all over town. Along with giants like Michael KorsRalph Lauren and Donna Karan come a slew of up-and-comers, among them Skaist Taylor, a new venture by Juicy Couture's founders Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor and Nahm (with a Hilfiger, Tommy's daughter, on the design team).

As a warm-up on Wednesday night, the always-fabulous The Heart Truth show will feature an all-star lineup of models wearing red dresses by top designers to promote awareness of heart health for women. Kohl's gets into it with a full-scale runway show at the Hammerstein Ballroom for their new collaboration with hip brand Rock & Republic. Speaking of jeans, here comes Levi's, set for it first-ever global presentation.

And then there's the world's ultimate fashionista: Barbie, (yeah, that Barbie), who will be unveiling her "Dream Closet."

As in every game, there are, well, opponents. Queen bee celeb stylist/reality show star and designer of an eponymous collection, Rachel Zoe presents her line Saturday. But, oh, snap, her ex-assistant and now competitor on the TV and styling fronts, Brad Goreski (whom she reportedly has not spoken with since he started his own gig) enters the arena the day before at Kate Spade's show, which he styled. Out of bounds, or what?
