Candela designer Gabriela Perezutti was inspired, she said, “by the California Gold Rush era and by old family photos of my grandfather in Uruguay.”

How does that translate to fashion? First off, champagne served in humble tin cups.

Onto the presentation, set in a camp-like wood frame where models donned boy-meets-girl looks: suspenders, a sparkle-dusted workshirt and long skirt, a grandfather cardigan over a wispy slip dress, a blinged out cocktail frock worn with loafers, a menswear ensemble with lurex pinstripe.

“My girl dresses up and down at the same time,” said Perezutti of her customer. “And it’s always about masculine meets feminine.”
