David Yurman designs for charity at London Jewelers

A well-heeled crowd (and we mean crowd...wow) turned out for London Jeweler’s super swank cocktail party at the Americana Manhasset on Thursday night celebrating David Yurman (a born-and-bred Long Islander, by the way) and his special design of two sparkly pendants to benefit the Lustgarten Foundation’s efforts in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Customers swirled around Yurman, who held court like a rock star – quite appropriate amidst all the bling and London sells some pretty major “rocks."
The designer, who was asked by storeowners Candy and Mark Udell to create the pieces for the charity, was a hands-on participant in the design process.
“It’s not a shape we usually do,” he said of the teardrop amethyst pendant featuring the brand’s signature twist at the top and sides, above. It hangs from a 16” box chain and comes two ways: set in sterling silver ($295) and in 18K gold ($1,700). A substantial portion of the profits will go to the Lustgarten Foundation.
The pendant was, apparently, a huge hit. According to sources at the store, some 80 pieces sold in the course of two hours. It will be delivered in November (perfect for the holiday).
Arleen Held, a customer from Manhasset, who purchased a necklace was moved by the design and the sentiment. “I think David Yurman did a beautiful job and it’s for pancreatic cancer. It’s a win-win,” she said, comparing the symbol to wearing a pink ribbon
