Isaac Mizrahi's Xerox show is not a copy
This quirky little show was called “IM Xerox,” and playful Isaac Mizrahi, always shares a wink and a witty notion with his audiences. Here, he delivered what at first glance seemed to be a grouping of almost serious looking duds but on closer examination they featured copy-like details — in effect it was trompe l’oeil — and there wasn’t a real pocket, collar or bow in sight.
Loose trousers and jackets had a wavy grayed pattern (sort of Xerox running out of toner), while panels of sheer peachy fabric acted as screens atop lush flower prints. Some of these seemed digital. There were a few sequined numbers, and several little black dresses with dotted overlays. One show-goer noted, “He should have called it “scan,” Xerox is such an old word.” But with the strong retro vibe, it all made sense.
