Michael Kors Spring 2015: The perennial optimist

Inspiration: “Optimistic chic” said program notes, and as Michael Kors explained to The Associated Press, “It’s a crazy world right now; you know, we look at the headlines, and it’s pretty tough out there. And I think that spring time ... it’s a time that people do feel more optimistic and I think that if you put something on that kind of has some charm to it, I think it changes your spirits.”

The vibe: Charming it was and actually unexpected from Kors, whose signature is clean, modern American sportswear -- and from whom one of the last things you’d expect is a frothy, slightly see-through tulle skirt heavily embroidered with bright yellow daffodils. But there it was in several iterations cleverly Kors-a-fied with a crisp poplin top. There were plenty more flowers in the bunch: buttercups, wisteria and geraniums -- appliqué, embroidered and printed all over. And there was a touch of ’50s retro, too, (optimism and all) with those nipped waists and fuller skirts and vintage-looking plaids.

As the sun spilled in through the Spring Studio’s huge windows, the front row pretties including Jada Pinkett-Smith, Mary J. Blige, Jessica Chastain and Olivia Munn were positively beaming -- it was a sunny show.

Lust-o-meter: Those floral embroidered skirts to wear by day or night -- must-haves. Crisp white Kors classics -- an airy mohair sweater topping whitewashed linen capris; for bodies beautiful, the sexiest romper ever in indigo blue with leather straps; a feather-light suede sleeveless jacket and skirt in khaki and a black Mikado dress with a plunging neckline that ... trust us, will make anyone who isn’t afraid of a little double-stick tape swoon. Oh, and those strappy leather sandals ... with a kitten heel ... gals will be clawing for them.

What the ...? A boldly printed floral pajama set was a little much, but perhaps Kors’ girls can pull it off. 

Our take: Upbeat, a delight and a beacon of light. Here’s to good times ahead and save us one of those skirts.
