While some designers went for more relaxed silhouettes on the first day of Fashion Week, Richard Chai Love’s polished runway was streamlined, tailored and all buttoned up. Chai explored neat military styles in shades of evergreen, pine and olive.

There were coats galore, among our faves a high-necked graphic floral parka. Menswear-inspired “speckled plaid” overcoats and blazers seemed a touch too masculine, but the tailoring on dresses, skirts and tuxedo pants emphasized curves in a classy way.

Call us a girlie girl, but amid all serious stuff was a striking series of purple pieces that demanded attention – a fit-like-a-dream lilac brocade suit and a lavender peplum dress reminded us that the collection isn't called Richard Chai “LOVE” for nothing.
