Somewhere between Western wear cliché and New York chic lies Derek Lam’s vision for spring 2011, and, wow, is it beautiful. Lam’s serene runway referenced the Wild West (sans wild) with denim, linen prairie dresses, even a take on the rodeo cowboy.
But don’t fret, y’all, that this stuff was super sophisticated – a divine embroidered poncho, belted, was sexy as all get-out. There were whisper-sheer long dresses for day or night, sweet (not too) shifts that grazed body – so easy – and many a flounce (but not frou-frou) that added interest to backs of tuxedo jackets, vests and dresses.
For evening swagger (you gotta look hot for the hoedown), layered tops in black and putty over a crisp, embellished A-line skirt. Really great. Yee-haw!
