It's said that to be a happy adult, it’s important to keep your inner child alive. These Long Island eateries are offering a way to do just that with their "Happy Meals" geared toward grown-ups.

The trend is rooted in nostalgia. It reinvents the iconic McDonald's Happy Meal — the bundle of chicken nuggets or a burger, fries, a drink and a toy — giving the combo an adult twist. With a hot dog, nuggets or a burger comes  a cocktail and a toy or a sweet treat.

Angie's, which opened last month in the space which used to be Publicans, offers an elevated iteration of the meal. For $34, the meal comes served in a box with a two-patty smashburger, fries topped with caviar and a pink champagne-colored cake pop. A martini comes as the included drink.

Manager Gianni Torto said as soon as the first Happy Meal goes out, it causes "a domino effect" of orders. "You send one out, you just see them flying out," Torto said.

Courtside Sport + Social, which took over Long Island Pekin earlier this year, offers a sportier take on a trend. Served on a pickleball paddle, it comes with crunchy chicken nuggets ($27), a hot dog ($27) or cheeseburger ($27) with french fries and a simple green or Caesar salad. Included drinks are the dirty martini, old-fashioned, Moscow mule, Negroni or Manhattan. Courtside also has mocktails like the hibiscus margarita or the "nah-perol" spritz. To push the right "nostalgia button," the meal comes with a toy, manager Lindsay Raynor said.

"We’ll do old-school, Play-Doh, bubbles, yo-yos, Rubik’s Cubes," she said. "Anything to bring you back to that time."

Millie’s Smash Bar and Aces & Eights Speakeasy Cocktail Club

54 W. Main St., Patchogue; 50 W. Main St., Patchogue

The trend hits the late-night crowd at retro-bar joint Millie's Smash Bar, attached to Aces & Eights speak easy cocktail club. For $25, the adult Happy Meal is served with a martini, burger and fries or onion rings. The $20 version swaps  the martini for beer or wine. Aces & Eights serves the meal on a silver platter; at Millie’s  it's served retro-style in a Tiffany blue box.

Mike Stefani, who co-owns both eateries, said patrons get "pumped up" when they find out they can get the meal at midnight. It's available Thursday from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. at both Millie’s and Aces. Friday and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Aces and 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Millie's.
