Arooga’s Grill House & Sports Bar opens in Patchogue with a chance for diners to win free wings for a year

The first 100 diners to visit Arooga’s Grill House & Sports Bar — opening Sunday in Patchogue — can score free wings for a year.
“We are super excited to bring our first location to Long Island and can’t wait to show the good people of New York what Arooga’s is all about,” said Gary Huether Jr., president and co-founder of Arooga’s.
Not only is this the first Long Island location for a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based chain, it’s the first New York branch of 10 restaurants slated to open across Long Island and Queens.
A hundred TV’s surround the vast 7,450 square-foot space, where wings are the specialty, whether they’re bone in, boneless, naked, twice-baked or “bleu twice-baked,” with choice of 30 sauces. Prices start at orders of five for $4.99 to 50 for $47.99.
Other menu items include “clean and simple soups” for about $5, burgers ($12-$13), Philly cheesesteaks starting at $10.99, stromboli and pizza ($8.99-$10.99), loaded fries ($7.99), mac n’ cheese skillets ($10.99) and fajitas (starting at $12.99). Vegetarians and gluten-free diners get a shout-out with specialty menus, and beer geeks can choose from big name and local craft brews from among 40 taps.
Arooga’s first opened in 2008 and began franchising in 2014, having since made deals for nearly 100 restaurants across the Northeast. Joseph Alagna is the owner of this location, which will open in partnership with JGJO Development Co. LLC.
What’s with the name? Arooga’s spokesman Keith Swade said it was coined by a customer in a naming contest. “There is no real significance to the Arooga’s name other than it’s catchy, fun, and easy to remember,” he said.
