Here’s the scoop for Long Island Ice cream lovers: Ben & Jerry’s has opened at Ronkonkoma’s Station Yards. The new outpost for the national ice cream chain is at 3 Hawkins Ave., steps away from the Ronkonkoma train station.
"Station Yards immediately felt like the right home for our Ben & Jerry’s," owner Nisha Sachdeva said in a news release.
The 1,476-square-foot space has a mural on the wall with bright blues and greens as well as the iconic Ben & Jerry’s cow.
While the brand is recognized worldwide and based in Vermont, it does have Long Island ties: Founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield grew up in Merrick before opening their first ice cream store in Vermont.
The company, now owned by British packaged goods company Unilever, is known for flavors such as Chunky Monkey, and Cherry Garcia joins Station Yards neighbors such as Lucharitos, Vespa and Pink Fin at the $1.2 billion multiuse development, developed by Tritec.
