Chinese restaurant Orient Odyssey reopens in Jericho

Orient Odyssey, the high-profile Jericho Chinese restaurant that closed last month for a reboot, has reopened. Owner Tommy Tan, who also owns The Orient in Bethpage, had said in January that he was not happy with the performance of either the kitchen or the dining room. Now both staffs have been overhauled, he said.
In the kitchen is Simon Ou, formerly of Green Tea in Stony Brook and, before that, the Crown Plaza hotel in Guangzhou, China. Tan said that for now the menu would remain the same, but that in the coming weeks, Ou would be introducing a specials menu of Cantonese and Hong Kong seafood specialties. “We want to bring more sophisticated, authentic Chinese food to Long Island,” Tan said.
Most of the servers are also new, and Tan is getting a management assist from Herman Woo, who presided over the late, lamented Sun Ming in Huntington and, more recently, worked at Kwong Ming in Wantagh.
Orient Odyssey opened in March 2015 after more than a year of work on the Birchwood Plaza location. In May 2015, Newsday’s Peter M. Gianotti gave it two stars.
