Decked out with a trippy “feed your soul” mural, Soul Brew opened in St. James on Saturday: A 30-seat coffee shop with tables, couches, cushy chairs and Wi-Fi.

Co-owner Kristin Walsh, a manager of Crazy Beans in Miller Place for four years, has wanted to oversee her own coffee shop since she was an undergrad at SUNY New Paltz, where she worked in one. Her wish came true when regulars at Crazy Beans approached her about backing her own concept. She shares responsibilities with partners Jeff and Nicole Petrocelli.

Walsh brews coffee from Stone Street Coffee Company in Brooklyn and tea from SerendipiTea in Manhasset. Coffee runs $2 for a double espresso, $3.50 for a cappuccino, about $4.50 for a latte and $2.25 for tea.

Former chef at The Grill in Hauppauge, Michael Heinlein cooks up a sit-down breakfast and lunch menu that includes breakfast burritos ($7.95), a mac-and-cheese bowl ($7.95) and avocado toast ($6.95) for starters. The menu also offers design-your-own omelets ($9.95) or breakfast sandwiches ($3.95 to $5.50) with a choice of three ingredients among meats, cheeses and vegetables.

The kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plans to expand to dinner hours and to secure a liquor license. For now, hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
