Barbecue restaurant Fatwood Southern Kitchen closes in Bay Shore after 5 months

Fatwood Southern Kitchen, one of Bay Shore's most ambitious new restaurants, closed abruptly on Sunday.
Executive chef Marc Bynum said that he was surprised by the decision made by partners Greg Mogil, Peter Petrakis and Drew Dvorkin. "We all invested time, we invested money, but in the end it just didn't work out," said Bynum. Just last week, Bynum said he had revamped the bar program, introducing new cocktails. But there was not enough time to see if it attracted new business.
Dvorkin, who owns the building where Fatwood resided, sounded regretful about the closure. "At the end of the day, it didn't work out the way we planned. I just think we missed the mark," he said.
Fatwood opened in July, serving a full line of smoked meats as well as Southern specialties and some of Bynum's more inventive spins on tradition such as ramen made with pulled pork.
Before it opened, Bynum had been consulting for the restaurant for more than a year. In June he left his previous restaurant, Hush Bistro in Huntington, to work full time at Fatwood. In an unrelated development, Hush Bistro closed last week.
