‘After Life’ at Broadway

Underground dance is on the rise on Long Island. The big clubs feature mainstream dance, hip-hop and pop. A few venues even offer country music. There are many genres of music local people like to boogie to – but still for some, the opportunities are rare when it comes to hearing their preferred style of dance beat.

For fans of alternative rock, new wave and 80s, the Subculture party is still going strong Fridays at WhoVille in Bethpage – and there are a few other similarly-styled events that pop up from time to time -- but often mingling within that group is an even smaller niche subset that prefers the louder, darker part of that particular sound. And come Friday, March 9, those who would like a night that focuses on the angrier stuff, there is an upcoming event geared toward that preference.

Called ‘After Life,” it’s being held on Friday, March 9 at Broadway in Amityville. Starting at 8 p.m., DJs Crono Von Bankin, Tyranny, Boogiepop and Shellshock will play music styles like industrial, gothic and EBM (Electronic Body Music) – all of which is often danceable but very sparse, dark-spirited and hard-edged. However, it won’t be all gloom-and-doom, as this is also an early St. Patrick’s Day Party -- so holiday favorites like corned beef and cabbage will be available to eat, and green-hued beer will pour at the bar, along with other drink specials. Guests must be 21-and-over; cover charge is $5 at the door.
