Combine an obscure German beer style, some award-winning home brewers, a giant new brewhouse, heated tents and wood-fired pizza, and you may begin to envision the shindig going down this weekend outside Blue Point Brewing Co.’s new Patchogue headquarters.

This Saturday, Jan. 19, the brewery — which opens to the public later this spring — will host a “parking lot party” at its new West Main Street campus for a one-day can release of three collaborations with local home brewers: A smoky-sour Lichtenhainer called The Lich King, an American lager (Lazy Lager, created by Jim Manganiello) and a Belgian quadrupel (Black Magic, created by Adam Weiss and Bill Weiss) brewed with coffee and coconut. Each beer’s author is a member of the Long Island Beer & Malt Enthusiasts, and helped produce enormous batches this fall inside the new facility.

“It’s pretty incredible to see how much of [the Lich King] was brewed,” said Justin Hansen of Coram who, with brewing partner Mark Williams, first created a Lichtenhainer for a spring Cask Ales Festival at the now-closed former brewhouse on River Avenue. “Sometimes it’s crazy people who come to a festival looking for things out of the ordinary. I can’t wait to see an average person drink [the Lich King].”

Lichtenhainer is a century-old German style similar to Berliner weisse, though brewed with smoked malt (in this case, smoked rye, plus wheat and barley) and kettle soured with lactobacillus for tartness. It’s the fifth year that LIBME home brewers have collaborated with a commercial brewery, a program started by LIBME board member and former president Andrew Luberto, who called the new brewhouse “Enormous. There’s nothing even close to it,” in terms of capacity on Long Island.

“We brewed 42 and a half barrels, which is a crazy volume,” said Williams, who lives in Patchogue and has been home brewing since 2013. His beer, along with those of his colleagues, will be entered into this year’s Taste NY Governor’s Cup Craft Beer Competition.

The can release runs from 1 to 9 p.m. at the new brewery at 225 W. Main St. in Patchogue, and Brockenzo Neapolitan Pizza will be on hand with wood-fired pies. Check Facebook for details.
