This may come as a surprise to some, but Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "The Fifth of May") does not amount to a major, nationwide celebration in Mexico. The holiday does exist, as it marks the defeat of the French army during the 1862 Battle of Puebla — but for much of the nation south of the U.S., the day does not involve the throwing of massive bashes. However, on this side of the border, several stateside bars, clubs and restaurants annually use it as a viable reason to cut loose — so if you’re looking for a spot to party “Cinco-style” come Sunday, May 5, there are LI options:
