In a previous LOL post, I described one way to experience the North Fork vineyards -- by biking from one winery to another. Not a fan of combining drinking and relaxation with exercise? Try a trolley tour.
The North Fork Trolley Co. (631-369-3031) is now offering a three-winery tour every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday through Oct. 31. For $50 per person you get wine tastings at three of the following spots: Baiting Hollow Vineyard, Palmer Vineyard, Martha Clara Vineyard, Macari Vineyard and Harbes Family Farm Stand. You also get to take in the area's scenery while riding in an old school trolley and the knowledge that you can sip, not spit, because you're not driving.
The approximately four-hour tour begins at 11 a.m. and departs from Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. Reservations are necessary. Groups of more than 20 can arrange a private vineyard trip on additional dates.
