'Femmes Fatales': Exhibition opens in Patchogue

What qualities do women exude? What draws people to them?

Those questions are explored in the photography exhibition "Femmes Fatales," which debuts Saturday at The Gallery at 40 South in Patchogue, which opened in January.

The exhibit features about 15 color and black-and-white photographs by four local photographers: Danielle Minnella, Krystle DiNicola, Dana Flaherty and Beth Rooney.

"All four of them have a very different way about their approach to art," gallery owner Rachel Ferzola says, adding that Rooney takes more portrait photos, while Flaherty focuses on close-ups of female features. "The things that pulled them together were that they are all females, all photographers and all extremely talented."

Viewers can expect to see photographs of a roller derby girl in action (Rooney), a woman's legs in stockings and feet in high-heels in front of a mirror (Minnella), a woman posing like a marionette doll with strings attached (DiNicola) and part of a woman's face slightly concealed by a scarf (Flaherty).

"These pictures really capture everything that is enchanting about a woman," Ferzola says. "It's very avant garde. It's refreshing to be able to walk into a gallery and see work that does that."
