'HarborFrost' returns to heat up The Hamptons

Ask year-round living, fun-seeking Hamptonites what they think of “HarborFrost,” and chances are you’ll receive a rave review.

It’s one of those happenings that seems to evade the attention of many Long Islanders east of Westhampton Beach, but this weekend-long festival – returning for its third year – is certainly worthy of the entire Island’s attention.

Based in Sag Harbor, it’s an event filled with family-friendly activities held around the town in various locations, from Feb. 8-10. The main day is Saturday, Feb. 9, when such happenings as story reading and craft-making for children (at 10:30 a.m.; for kids 3 and older), ice carving exhibitions (at noon and 2 p.m.), a polar bear plunge (1 p.m.), an art walk and a performance from fire dancers (5 p.m.), as well as special sales and deals at businesses and restaurants along Sag’s Main Street are scheduled to take place throughout the day – all culminating with a nighttime fireworks display (6 p.m.).
