Matty T's closing down, again

It was November 2011 when country music fans got the news: Matty T’s Roadhouse was back.

After serving Long Island as one of the few -- if not only -- venues dedicated to country music, line dancing and live bands playing the boot-scoot boogie for almost three decades, this Deer Park honky-tonk., at 356 Commack Rd., had closed its doors  a month before only to return to provide the same entertainment and sounds it had been so well known to do.

Unfortunately, as of Friday, Aug. 31, Matty’s is once again set to shutter come Labor Day Weekend.

Details have been scarce as to why the club is again going out of business, but it has been alerting its regulars via social media and on its website (mattyts.com).

The venue’s Facebook page shows posts from regulars who note how they will miss Matty’s. Its events calendar lists a Thursday, Aug. 30, karaoke party as a Last Chance Karaoke Sing-a-Long, and invites customers to come “be a star on LI's original country stage one last time!”

The final night is being called “The Last Stand Rockabilly Rumble,” with DJ Neil and live music from The Buzzards and Billy Connah and the Hot Rod Hearts. (Doors open at 8 p.m., $8).

Other events before the place closes include line dance lessons at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28, $10, with DJ Footloose; as well as music from bands Grand Central  at 8 p.m.  Aug 23, $6; Yankee Rebel at 8 p.m.  Aug. 24, $8;  and Whiskey Rebel at 8 p.m. Aug. 25, $10.
