Although it may not feel like it just yet, spring is here and Major League Baseball is back in business. The Mets open their season Friday, April 1 against the Florida Marlins, while the Yankees' first game is this afternoon, with the Bronx Bombers taking on the Detroit Tigers at 1:05 p.m.
Of course, every sports bar with a HDTV from Manhattan to Montauk is looking forward to the return of the big league teams (meaning 162 games' worth of patrons) -- and one of those, Social Sports Lounge & Kitchen in Uniondale, has decided to mark the occasion with a late-night party that lands between the first games of both teams.
At their "Opening Day Party" tonight, patrons are asked to wear either a Yankees or Mets jersey for the evening. Those sporting their jerseys will score an open bar (of domestic beers and vodka drinks) from 10 to 11 p.m.
There's a $5 cover for the night, and DJs Mike Mathews and Fresh will be playing pop, hip-hop and '80s rock well into early Friday regardless of how well Derek Jeter fares at the plate.
