Offbeat beats on Thanksgiving eve

There’s no shortage of social opportunities available this year on the night before Thanksgiving (also known to club goers as Thanksgiving Eve or  the Wednesday Before). As most local venues will be seeking mass appeal, one can expect that the bands and DJs scheduled around LI will generally stick to mainstream music, such as pop, rock, hip-hop, classic tracks and EDM.

On the other hand, The Velvet Lounge in Setauket has put together a special, dance-worthy bash in an alternative direction.

Receiving a regular crowd that ranges from older college students (over 21) to people ages 30 to 50, The Velvet Lounge’s event calendar often includes electronic music and a selection of avant-garde performances -- and on Wednesday, Nov. 27, that modus operandi will remain intact as it welcomes back the experimental DJ duo Multiple Mono.

A Stony Brook-based act, Multiple Mono (musicians Rob Paterson and Colin Kasprowicz) plays The Velvet Lounge frequently, but can also be found working the NYC concert and nightlife scene (as of this writing, Paterson and Kasprowicz have recently held a residency at Nublu, a club located at 62 Avenue C in Manhattan). The Multiple Mono sound is very danceable, but sparse and haunting at times, touching on such niche electronic music subgenres as ambient, techno and classic house (soundcloud.com/multiplemono).

Also on the bill is Agent Danger, a band that specializes in noisy, dark and funky tunes. Both are expected to play The Velvet Lounge main room, while in the train car (there is an actual, full-sized train car attached to the building), DJs Chaotic and Kaution will be spinning deep and bass-heavy beats.
