Long Island may be getting ready for the Summer of 2013, but for some, the nightmare that struck LI in the late autumn of 2012 is still impacting their lives.
Superstorm Sandy hit during the final week of October last year, and while many have restored their circumstances, others — especially along the shoreline and bays — are still putting things back together, and this process can often prove costly.
Fortunately, several charities and relief organizations have contributed to the ongoing recovery effort, and on Thursday, May 16 one of those groups working to provide aid is hosting a fundraiser. Calling the event “Raise The Roof,” the Mohawk Avenue Saint Foundation will be presenting an evening of entertainment in hopes of gathering some added financial wherewithal to provide Long Beach and Island Park residents with grants to help fix home-related issues including electricity, heating, air conditioning and plumbing.
The affair will be taking place at the Bridgeview Yacht Club (80 Waterfront Blvd., Island Park, 516-432-2400), and is scheduled to feature raffles plus live music from bands Jahstix and Mystic, as well as Benoir and the Long Beach All-Stars, with comedian/ ventriloquist John Pizzi serving as the event MC.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with tickets available for $125 ($225 for a couple) by calling 631-991-5990 or online at mohawkavenuesaintfoundation.org. For more information, check that website or head to facebook.com/MohawkAvenueSaintFoundation.
*The Mohawk Avenue Saint Foundation, Inc. is incorporated under not-for-profit law in New York State, but its status as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is still pending, meaning any donations made won’t be tax deductible until after the process has been completed.
