If you crave a dance party, that’s not too much of a challenge to find -- there’s usually a DJ spinning somewhere on the Island every night of the week, and live music is also pretty much a nightly happening. Genres like hip-hop, pop, house, rock and country are well covered. Even fans of older sounds can find something to their liking, be it classic rock or disco.

But what about flapper-era jazz?

For those looking to take their night out all the way back to the Roaring 20s, the North Shore Promotion Alliance event group is sponsoring a “Great Gatsby"-style party set for  May 17 at the Chateau at Coindre Hall in Huntington.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m., saxophonist Shenole Latimer and his band will lead the dance floor with Jazz Age music all night, while the bar serves cocktails, and guests are served hors d’oeuvres and wine. The room will be decorated to match the theme, and party patrons can do the same to themselves – while period dress isn’t mandatory, it’s more than welcome.

Tickets are available for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. RSVP and checks will accepted until May 10 (make checks payable to the North Shore Promotion Alliance, mail to NSPA, Box 572, Stony Brook), with PayPal possible via longislandheritagetrail.com; you can also RSVP by phone. Call 631-751-2244.
