'Summer Sunday Classics' film series at Solé East Resort
While the major buzz usually surrounds film showcases like the Cannes, Tribeca and Sundance film festivals, one that receives somewhat less attention -- yet also features movies full of A-list stars -- just happens to be held every year right here on Long Island.
The Hamptons International Film Festival happens every fall (with this year's scheduled for Oct. 13-17), but over at the Solé East Resort in Montauk, the series' organizers have decided to go a bit early in their showings. Unlike the independent films and documentaries offered during the main event, however, for the summer HIFF will bring an instantly recognizable work to the Solé courtyard.
The title of the gathering says it all: The "Summer Sunday Classics" film series. It starts at the Backyard Restaurant at Solé East with a pre-screening barbecue and cocktail hour opening at 7 p.m., where food and drinks will be available for purchase. The movies will start at sunset, with each shown outdoors for no charge and open to the public.
Here's the schedule for the season. Keep in mind: most films -- but not all -- are family-friendly, so while all are considered classics, a few aren't perfect for the little ones:
