We all know the story of young Clara who creeps down the stairs for one of her presents, but instead, is whisked away to a dreamland of magic and adventure.
Check out a different way of watching Clara’s story unfold at the Parrish Art Museum’s Opera, Ballet and Shakespeare in Cinema series screening of “The Nutcracker” on Saturday afternoon in Southampton.
The museum will screen a live recording of “The Nutcracker” ballet staged last year at the Royal Opera House in London.
“If you couldn’t go to London, this is your opportunity to see it on a big screen,” says museum spokesman Mark Segal.
The film is screened in the museum’s concert hall on a 20-foot screen. Complimentary soft drinks are available, Segal says.
But the real perk is viewing “The Nutcracker” with “different perspectives than what you might get if you were in the audience,” Segal says.
“All these films are shot with many cameras so you get close-ups … you see the musicians warming up, the conductors. It’s almost an inside view,” Segal says.
