Food truck festivals are the perfect excuse to soak up the sun and spend time outdoors on Long Island.

There’s an element of freedom when picking up a treat from a truck at a food festival, being able to bask in the scenery with live music or shopping from vendors and indulging in other events.

Nesconset Spring Fling and Food Truck Rodeo

Where: 127 Smithtown Blvd., Nesconset

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 17

The music festival and food truck rodeo will have 10 food trucks and 90 vendors. For something savory, there's the Agnes Heavenly Pierogi’s or DJ’s Clam Shack and Angie’s Empanadas. Tapville Mobile Beer Tap and St. James Brewery will also be among the vendors. For something sweet, the Boo Farm Brunch Truck will serve breakfast treats like mini pancakes with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups ($15).

There will be live music from three local bands: Logan Whaley, Wildfire the Band and Fat Nicky and the Snacks.

The free event will also include a bounce house and mechanical bull ride, plus booths for permanent jewelry and tarot readings.

"There’s just something about street food," said Tracey Balaker, organizer of the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce event. "People are dying to get out, be in the park, drink a beer in the sun, have some great music and eat some really delicious street food."

Foodie Fest Deer Park

Where: 152 The Arches Circle, Deer Park

When: Noon to 7 p.m., May 22-25

Foodie Fest is redefining shop-till-you-drop, with options for Long Islanders to grab a bite before or after a retail therapy session.

Oleg Zivkovich and Spiro Ploumes, partners at Foodie Fest Productions, have been running the free Foodie Fest food truck festival since 2020. Zivkovich said it takes months to plan.

"People are craving innovative food and selection — in addition to that they want atmosphere," Zivkovich said.

There will be 16 food trucks, including Authentic Greek Food Truck, Puerto Rican food from Yari’s Good Eats and Polish fare from Igor’s Kitchen. Other vendors include Extreme Empanadas, Shrimp Shack and Cousins Maine Lobster.

Food stands like Uncle Louie G’s Ice, PJ’s confections and Twin Stills Distillery will sell to-go options.

Foodie Fest Riverhead

Where: 602 Tanger Mall Dr., Riverhead

When: Noon to 7 p.m., May 23-25

Riverhead’s Foodie Fest will host 13 food trucks. Pupusa City offers the Salvadoran treat and The Filthy Pig serves barbecue fare. Other trucks will serve pizza, soul food and Caribbean eats.

Food stands Aguas Frescas, Tommy Pickles and The Pudding Lady will sell take-home treats.

Zivkovich described the free Foodie Fest as a "great big block party."
