Cuvee Bistro & Bar, the wine-focused restaurant in the Greenporter Hotel, will close after dinner service on Sept. 6. Chef-owner Deborah Pittorino said that she made the decision based on "a family health issue." Her husband, Bill Pittorino, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, and the couple want to concentrate their time and effort on his care.

When it opened in 2001, La Cuvee, as it was originally known, heralded the beginning of a Greenport restaurant boom. (The village's other new-old-timers Frisky Oyster and Scrimshaw didn't open until 2002 and 2004, respectively.) As befits its name ("cuvee" refers to the best juice that goes into a vintage of Champagne), the restaurant was devoted to local wine.

The Greenporter Hotel will remain open and no new tenant is planned for the restaurant space.
