If you're a fan of sake — or aspire to become one — the Sept. 21 sake tasting dinner at West East Bistro in Hicksville may have your name on it.
Wine and sake expert Ivan Gonzalez will hold forth about the different kinds of sakes: how the beverage is made, how it should be enjoyed and how it pairs with food.
Chef Michael Wong's four-course menu, at $55 a person (plus tax and gratuity), will be as follows:
First Course: Crudo sampler of yellowfin tuna, salmon, yellowtail, beet and micro greens, paired with Typhoon, Junmai (served chilled and slightly warmed)
Second Course: Olive oil-poached Scottish salmon and pan-seared diver scallop with candied orange peel, cucumber, nori, soba and ginger-sesame vinaigrette, paired with Wandering Poet, Jumain Ginjo and Tears of Dawn, Daiginjo
Third Course: LI duck confit and sake-braised pork with sauteed wild mushroom, kimchee and bacon-fried rice, paired with Soul of Sensei, Jumai Daiginjo
Dreamy Clouds, Nigori (Unfiltered Sake)
Dessert: Roasted fruit compote with nigori sorbet, paired with Blossoms of Peace, Umeshu (Plum Sake)
