Italian restaurant Salumeria Pomodoro opens in Huntington

Salumeria Pomodoro is now open in Huntington Village, and the casual Italian restaurant is kicking things off with “Beat the Clock,” a nightly special that can save diners up to $10 a dish: Between 5 and 7 p.m., diners can order fettuccine pomodoro, rigatoni Bolognese or spaghetti Alfredo at a price based on the time of order. If it’s 5:30 p.m., the entree costs $5.30. Order at 6:45 and pay $6.45.
Salumeria Pomodoro is a sibling to the restaurant of the same name in Roslyn that opened in December and earned 1 1/2 stars. Both locations are owned by Reststar Hospitality Group, which also operates Bistro Cassis (around the corner in Huntington), Brasserie Cassis in Plainview and La P’tite Framboise in Port Washington.
“Beat the Clock” is exclusive to Huntington; the Roslyn location has a Monday pasta night deal that’s $25 for salad, pasta, focaccia and a drink.
The rest of the menu nearly matches the one in Roslyn, which includes salumi, salads and antipasti such as the Tuscan kale soup or grilled octopus, pizza such as the rucola with prosciutto and arugula, pasta including spaghetti carbonara and entrees such as saltimbocca or short ribs braised in Barolo. Prices range from $8 to $18 for small plates and pizza; $15 to $34 for pasta and entrees.
Salumeria Pomodoro is open 5 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For now it is closed on Sunday but by April, the restaurant expects to serve lunch and dinner every day as well as Sunday brunch.
