Kenta in Melville closes its doors

Kenta, the sleek east-meets-west restaurant in Melville, has closed.
It’s expected to be succeeded at 1197 Walt Whitman Rd. by a Japanese restaurant specializing in sushi, called Aiko Asian Bistro.
Kenta was ranked among Newsday’s Top 100 restaurants in 2015. Last year, the sleek Asian spot earned a two-and-one-half star rating for standout sashimi and sushi. Kenta also scored with dishes as diverse as avocado toast with burrata, fried oysters, Kobe beef sliders, and chicken with shallot sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes.
Kenta followed the equally short-lived Nisen 110 at the address, just off Route 110. For many years, it was occupied by Herrmann’s Black Sheep and, later, Herrmann’s Barolo.
In a Facebook message, Kenta’s owners said: “Thank you to all that have supported our sushi adventures from Nisen to Kenta . . . we’re signing off.”
