Louisiana Joe’s Sandwich Shop is bringing a little bit of New Orleans to Oceanside. The 15-seat eatery opened in late October in a Merrick Road storefront that has seen a lot of tenants over the last few years, Top Gun Wings, Twain’s Chicken and Ribs among them.

The eponymous Joe is chef Joe LoSchiavo, formerly executive chef at B.K. Sweeney’s Uptown Grille and George Martin in Rockville Centre before heading up kitchens at Atlantic Beach clubs. His partner is Terry Hanna, a South Shore front-of-the-house veteran whom he met at Sweeney’s.

LoSchiavo had long been a passionate fan of New Orleans cuisine. Both he and Hanna wanted to take a step back from the late nights that a restaurant requires, and so Louisiana Joe’s serves only breakfast and lunch. Breakfast items include a gumbo omelet with andouille sausage ($6.95). The lunch menu features a muffuletta (the famous antipasto sandwich, $7.95), gumbo and jambalaya (both $5.95) po’boys stuffed with shrimp, oysters, roast beef, chicken, turkey and French fries ($5.95 to $7.95). There are plenty of non-regional items too — eggs, burgers, salads, sandwiches and wraps.

Louisiana Joe’s Sandwich Shop, open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day but Sunday, is at 488 Merrick Rd., Oceanside, 516-442-9838.
