Northport landmark Maroni Cuisine to open takeout restaurant in Southold

Maroni Cuisine, the Northport landmark known for its inventive tasting menus, plus celebrated takeout hot pots and meatballs, plans to open a restaurant in Southold in the spring.
The new spot will "focus on takeout," said co-owner Maria Maroni. "We want to be a year-round, community based business." Eventually, the Southold eatery will have "casual counter seating," she added, where diners can sample some of Maroni's more popular dishes in "a taste of the tasting" menus.
Maroni Cuisine in Northport earned a three-star rating in Newsday in 2016, based on chef Michael Maroni's tasting menus, which typically include an eclectic selection of 20 to 25 small plates. The restaurant seats about 20 diners.
Chef Maroni received national attention in 2007, when he was the winner in a televised meatball "throwdown" with celebrity chef and Food Network mainstay Bobby Flay. "Grandma Maroni's Gourmet Meatballs" are based on a century-old family recipe
Takeout fare in Northport includes hot pots of those meatballs and pasta in tomato sauce, as well as linguine and clams, penne alla vodka with chicken, Korean-style barbecue ribs, Kobe beef cheeseburgers, chicken Milanese, chicken Parmigiana, veal Parmigiana and a fish of the day.
The Maronis have resided in Southold for seven years. Their planned restaurant there is expected to open at 54195 Main Rd.
