When I first arrived at the new Miyako in Hicksville, the hibachi tables were inactive but the sushi bar was rolling. Fine with me, since a maki roll or two was all my compadre and I felt like ordering.

An unimpeachable salmon-avocado roll had more fish than rice, both at optimal temperature. The more ornate “sweetheart” roll (mango, asparagus and salmon) was just as pleasing.

Here’s my carp: While we ate, the crew was industriously cleaning both the hibachi tables and the windows – rubber gloves, Windex spray and all.  I know that weekend lunch can be a slow time at many restaurants. And I’m all in favor of keeping everything clean —  but, please, guys … get it done before opening or after closing.

Miyako is at 550 S. Broadway, Hicksville, 516-470-9547
