It’s lucky number seven for Roast Sandwich House: The local chain is expanding to Hauppauge for its seventh location on the Island. This will be the easternmost location for the popular sandwich shop, which debuted in 2011 in Melville and gradually expanded to Hicksville, Mineola, Syosset, Bellmore and Babylon.

Roast is taking over the former Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop at 373 Smithtown Bypass. Owner Joseph Cordaro said he is planning to open in late February or early March.

"It was the perfect time to get into another good Suffolk County market," Cordaro said. "Hauppauge’s been another place that we’ve been looking to go. It has the big business park and it’s a great town as well."

The 1,800-square-foot space will seat 24 diners. Fans of Roast will recognize the modern industrial ambiance, Cordaro said, which will continue at the new location with exposed duct work, wooden tables and metal chairs. New menu items include a wagyu chopped cheese sandwich ($18.50).

William Denslow, franchisee of the Las Vegas-based Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, closed his shop last month after three years in Hauppauge.

"Time flies," Denslow said. "I’m in my 80s and it was time to retire. ... I thought to sort of hand down or transfer my legacy to somebody who would be a quality shop there, Joe impressed me as somebody that might do that."
