Burritos, as we know them, come stuffed with rice, chicken, cheese and beans. At Manorville's new The Rainbow Scoops, though, husband-and-wife duo Evelyn and Richard Morales turn the savory burrito into something sweet, using cotton candy stuffed with ice cream and toppings.

“We thought it was a cool idea so we decided to experiment with it,” Evelyn said.

Much like a traditional burrito, these too, are to be eaten with your hands. Pink and blue cotton candy  is stuffed with your choice of three scoops of housemade ice cream (think Nutella, birthday cake, vegan Oreo, peanut butter) and three toppings like cereal, candy or fruit. Before being served, it’s cut down the middle.

“It looks very sweet, but when you dig into it, the way the ice cream complements the cotton candy, it’s just like a perfect match,” Evelyn said.

Other indulgences include ice cream, milkshakes and baked goods like cake pops, brownies and cookies from Secret Stuffed Cookies. For Fido, the Moraleses launched Pluto’s ice cream, a line of peanut butter ice cream topped with a dog treat, in honor of their pooch.

This is the second sweet shop for the couple, who also own The Rainbow Rolls in Center Moriches, where the menu is based on handrolled ice cream.

While Scoops doesn't compare in size to Rolls, there are a few tables set up inside and out.

The Rainbow Scoops is open daily; Mondays to Thursdays from 2 to 10 p.m. and Fridays to Sundays from noon to 10 p.m. It’s at 460 County Road 111.. More info: 631-909-3885
