Tatte Bakery & Cafe, the high-end Boston-based chain with more than 30 locations on the East Coast, is opening one in Garden City. The company is aiming for a September launch, according to Scott Nelson, vice president of marketing.
The only Tatte in the metropolitan area opened in May in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The other shops are clustered around Boston and Washington, D.C. All share the same retro-chic, subway-tile forward design and an extensive menu of sweets and savories to eat in or take out.

From the kitchen: soups, salads, sandwiches, bowls and a few iterations of shakshuka — the Middle Eastern dish of eggs poached in sauce. From the bakery: pastries, cookies, muffins, tarts, galettes, cakes, buns and yeast breads.
Tatte was founded in 2007 by pastry chef Tzurit Or. A year after she began selling homemade baked goods at Boston's Copley Square farmers market, she opened her first shop, in Brookline. In 2016, Ron Shaich, founder of Panera Bread and Au Bon Pain, became a majority investor.
Tatte Bakery & Cafe will take up residence in the old CoreLife Eatery on the corner of Ninth Street and Franklin Avenue in Garden City.
