Where to celebrate Oktoberfest on Long Island

Oktoberfest started in 1810 to celebrate a royal marriage. This year, the first keg will be tapped in Munich on Sept. 16.
And from Franklin Square to East Hampton, Long Island restaurants are joining the party.
Rowdy Hall in East Hampton gets it going with its ninth annual kickoff on Sept. 16 with pretzels and mustard ($3), wurst platters ($10) and Oktoberfest beer ($6.50 per pint). Then, it will serve $27 fixed-price dinners from Sept. 16 to Oct. 1, with specials that vary by the day, and include sauerbraten, smoked pork chops, and Wiener schnitzel.

Mirabelle Tavern in Stony Brook plans a $58 fixed-price dinner on Oct. 5 pairing German and Alsatian specialties with beers. Reservations are required.

Plattduetsche Park in Franklin Square will serve $40 per person German buffet with unlimited food and drink on Oct 6. There will be live music and traditional dancing. Reservations required.

Oak Chalet in Bellmore will add accordion music to go along with its a la carte German cuisine on Thursdays from Sept. 21 to Oct. 26, and on Wednesdays, Oct. 11, 18, and 25.
