Carrie Sansone, of Port Jefferson Station, killed in crash with Suffolk County Transit bus, police say

A resident of a Suffolk County-based adult home was killed Tuesday evening after she was struck by a bus in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk police said.
Carrie Sansone, 62, was attempting to "run westbound across the roadway" on Route 25A when she was hit by a southbound Suffolk County Transit bus at 10:05 p.m., police said. She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The bus was carrying no passengers at the time of the crash and police said the 51-year-old driver was not injured; he has not been charged.
The bus was impounded for a safety check.
The incident occurred in front of the Echo Arms Adult Home and, in a statement to Newsday on Wednesday, the state-licensed facility said Sansone was a resident, but citing regulations, couldn't provide additional details.
"The residents and staff of Echo Arms are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of our resident and our thoughts and prayers and hearts are with the deceased's loved ones, family and friends," a facility spokesperson said.
